Final Advert idea...

I am going to produce my first advert idea because I think it works well with the Digipak I will produce and will visually look better as an advert :-)

Advert Idea #2

For the second advert I would have a plain white background with a close up shot of Hannahs face, the album title clearly displayed across the advert along with the release date.

Advert Idea #1

For my first idea, I thought that I should incorporate the Digipak images into the advert, for example a long shot of Hannah with explosives in the background. The font for the advert would be the same font used on the Digipak; it is important to make sure that there are similarities between the advert and Digipak hence why I have chosen to have an explosive background and the same font.

The advert would include an image of the Digipak at the bottom right hand corner. The release date and any exclusive tracks would also be mentioned on the advert underneath the Digipak preview.

The release date would be in bold writing because after all, the consumers need to know when the album is coming out.

Ideas for my magazine album advert

For my magazine advert, I need to incorporate all of the conventions of a magazine advert to ensure that mine is similar to a real life media product.

Conventions of a magazine album advert

The conventions of a magazine Digipak advert  are (that I will have to follow):
  • The release date of the Digipak will clearly be displayed
  • There is usually a small picture of the Digipak within the advert
  • The adverts main picture is usually either an image that can be found in the Digipak (symbolic image relating to the album or of the artist) or a separate image of the artist that has no relation to the Digipak
  • Exclusive or popular tracks which are on the Digipak are often printed on the advert
  • The Digipak title and name of the artist clearly displayed too
  • The price of the Album - not all adverts I came across displayed the price on their advert
  • The places where you can purchase the album
  • Bold fonts are used
All magazine advertts differ, depending on  what style and look the artist and record label want to go for. However, the basic cinventions that you will find on any magazine adverts are : The title - A main picture (artist or symbollic image) - release date - Preview of Digipak and Artist Name

Plan B magazine album advert

This is Plan B's magazine album advert to promote his album 'the defamation of Strickland Banks'. As you can see this advert follows the typical conventions a magazine advert, The first thing you notice on the advert is the big, bold, red title which is 'PLAN B' - this is the name of the artist/group; the second thing I notice is the title of the album which is 'The defamation of Strickland Banks' -  this title is printed in the same font but in white. The red and white font works well against the black background because they stand out and will catch the audiences attention. The rest of the font is also either red or white. Continuing the theme of black and white and red is important because this theme is also continued on the album.

A marketing technique is then used to make the album sound more appealing and like the audience need to buy it. 'The multi-platinum album of the year' - They are using the fact that it is a multi platinum album to promote it.

In a smaller print, you can see that they have listed all the publications that have rated the album four stars out of five. This is again a technique to show the audience that it has been rated highly and that they should buy it.

In the bottom left corner is a preview of the Digipak. As you can see the Digipak shares the same color scheme as the poster, making these two items links and associated with each other - making sure the two products are linked together is important because the audience can recognize the album or advert when they see it.

The main image for the advert is a picture of the lead singer known as Plan B. Plan B is the main image because he is the lead singer and he is trying to sell his style, his image, his voice and so on. Also he is on the front cover of his album so it would make sense to have him on the advert. As he is the lead singer and the audience would automatically recognize him.

Shooting Digipak and Advert...

Today I shot my ancillary texts, the Digipak and the Digipak magazine advert. I think it went fairly well and I'll need to use Photoshop to make the best of the shots I got today and to produce what I had anticipated.

Magazine Advert....

I have chosen to plan and create a magazine advert for my second ancillary text. The idea of a magazine advert is to market and promote the Digipak; the advert and Digipak work together because some of the images on the advert could be found on the Digipak.

Final Digipak Idea...

For my final Digipak I have chosen to create my first idea because I think that it is the best idea and personally I feel that it will look better than any of the other ideas. All of the inspirations I got from real music artists have been from the same genre - Pop/RnB.

Idea # 3

For my third idea for a Digipak. I have again used a close up image of Hannah for the front cover but I have split the image into halves and put them at the sides of the cover with the title 'Grenade' written vertically down the middle.

The whole Digipak would be in black and white showing a chic element to Pop/RnB. There would be a continuous theme of black and white stripes across the panels.

The back panel would have a list of the tracks on and a stripy  pattern.

The inside panels would have separate images of Hannah, all having stripes somewhere in the shot.

idea # 2

For my second idea, I have gone for a more pop-princess feel, my inspiration for this pop princess theme is Nicki Minaj, again, Nicki Minaj is an artist in the same genre as what I am focusing on.

The front cover of this Digipak would have a mid shot image of Hannah, this shot would allow us to see some of her chest which is following some of the RnB conventions that women wear provocative clothing and so on. Hannahs image would be positioned to the left side and on the right side of her, the album title and artist name would be printed.

I have chosen to have a flowing, posh font in Bold black because then the title stands out and the font fits in with the 'princess royal' tone.

The background would be a bubblegum pink colour which is very feminine.

The inside panels carry on the theme of royalty and princesses as there would be an image of Hannah sitting on a grand red chair. To make Hannah look more provocative she would wear stockings with a figure hugging black dress. On the second panel, the image would be a close up of Hannah wearing a crown conveying the 'pop-princess' theme.

On the inside folded panel there would be a shot of Hannah from the side in front of a bubblegum pink background - the same as on the cover. The background colour will continue throughout the Digipak so the panels all appear to be linked.

For the back cover, it is a simple design, the songs will be listed in the same font as on the front cover but displayed ona  white background.

Idea # 1

For my first idea I have used Alicia Keys 'As I am' album as an inspiration. For my front cover, there would be an extreme close up of Hannahs face which will take up the whole of the panel. I think that having an extreme close up would be a good idea because it will sell Hannah as an artist and emphasise her beauty. Obviously, I would put make up on Hannah because I'm portraying a Pop/RnB genre where 'sexy' make-up and flowing hair is typical of these artists.

The main thing that I think I would have to do is Smokey eyes, nude lipstick and highlight her features such as cheekbones, browline and nose. I have chosen to do this type of make up because from my research into DigiPaks and music videos, this 'look' is apparent in all.

The title 'Grenade' would clearly be displayed in capitals over the image of Hannah. A clear title is necessary so it is eye-catching to the audience.

For the inside panels, I thought of an idea which could continue between the panels so when the Digipak would open up you would see a series of continuous images. As the title is 'Grenade', there would be a background of loads of colourful explosions for the inside panels. Over the background would be three images of Hannah dancing in positions which would exploit her curves and figure. I got this inspiration from Beyonces albums as in most her digipaks there are pictures where she is odd positions which work well for both the camera and her curves.

All the images used in the digipak would be coloured and Hannah would wear a black dress with wavy hair to look appealing.

On the panel which would fold inside, there would not be  an image of Hannah but an image of explosions much like the panels on the inside.

The back cover is very simple, it would be a plain balck background with the titles of the songs written in white. The font would  be a soft 'girly' font which would hopefully appeal to the target audience which is girls.

Ideas for my digipak

My Digipak needs to represent and compliment the genre of my music video which is Pop/RnB. Although I need to follow the conventions of a Digipak, I still need to follow the conventions of a Pop/RnB music video.

For example, I want to focus on my artists face and figure, much like Rihannas Digipak that I looked at earlier.

I have a few images in my head that I want to create that will match both the song 'Grenade' and match the genre.

Conventions of a DigiPak

The conventions of a digipak are (that I will have to include):
  • Symbolic images that represent the tone/themes/genre of the music/albumn
  • Normally a picture of the artist/band on the front cover or panels inside.
  • The inside panels open up to create one large picture
  • Title of the album displayed very clearly
  • Continuous theme throughout the digipak, in terms of colours images and objects
The layout and what goes on the different panels are generally as follows:
  • The Front Panel (Front cover) has a main image which represents the album or the artist. Normally, there is a picture of the artist/group. The name of the group and artist are also put onto the front panel.
  • The inside panels of a digipak is where the CD would be found and there are generally four inner panels which can open out into a little booklet. These inside panels can consist of many thing such as:
                       - quotes from the artist
                       - Lyrics
                       - Symbolic objects images that convey the
                         theme of the album
                       - Images of the artist
A main thing to remeber about the inside panels of a digipak is that there should be a continuos theme that is present throughout the album. for example, in Lady Gagas Fame Monster Digipak, the colors were all the same and the images all had the same theme to them.
  • The back pannel is rather simple. It normally consists of the songs which are in the album. Again the same colours are continued and sometimes, there are more images on the back, however most back pannels are plain and simple.
  •  The spine of a digipak is small and usually only says the name of the album/artist.
  • The CD disk itself normally is plain with an image on it.

Rihanna - Good Girl Gone Bad Reloaded Digipak

As my music video is based on the genre of RnB/pop, I thought it would be a good idea to look at a Digipak from an Artist who produces and releases the same genre of music.

As you can see the conventions of an RnB/Pop music video rubbed off onto the digipak. The cover of the digipak is simple yet effective. There is a large picture of Rihanna. Her posture exstentuates her figure and curves. Her body looks attractive and inspiring to her fans  - they will want to have a slim figure similar to hers.

The other main image that you notice, other than Rihanna herself is the title and the massive 'RIHANNA' that is displayed in the centre of the cover. The title is Red which is the opposite to the background colour that is blue. This contrast works well and even more so makes the title stand out more. Underneath the bigger titles is the name of the album 'Good girl gone bad'.

The colour scheme for the front cover is very vibrant and work well together, the image of Rihanna herself is black and white. I think that the front over is very simple but portrays that Rihanna is a young, fun and attractive artist and her music is the same.

The back cover also follows the same conventions of a commercial exhibitionist and RnB performance. For example, a close up of Rihannas face, showing her natural beauty. The image is in black and white - the same effect as the front cover image. Rihannas make-up is sultry.

The disk follows the same colour scheme as the front cover, back cover and inside panels which shows that there is a continuous theme in a Digipak.

The inside panel consists of photos of Rihanna - I can gather from this that in this Pop/RnB genre there are always lots of images of the artist in the Digipak. The inside panel picture is alluring with her top sliding down one shoulder.

What is a DigiPak?

A digipak is a form of CD packaging made from thick card/paper. A digipak is like a little book as it opens up and inside consists of normally four or six pictures which include a front cover, back cover, left inside, right inside and a left inside centre. The frames inside generally represent something to do with the album, the pictures inside the frame normally all open up to create one big picture.

Re-filming Green Screen scenes...

As you know, my blue screen failed to work meaning that I couldn't do what I anticipated on Final Cut pro. Today, I am re filming these scenes so hopefully the second time round, the chroma key effect will work!

This is my set up which is definitely an improvement from my last attempt!

Editing...!

Today I started editing my music video using the Final Cut Pro editing program on the MAC. I made some progress today as I have now roughly put together my music video, however some parts have not gone quite to plan! Unfortunately, my Blue Screen did not work and the colour of the blue screen and colour of Hannahs black dress was not different enough to establish a contrast. I will have to film the chorus blue screen scenes again, this time I will use a green screen so it should definitely work!

Apart from that, my music video is pretty much edited together
:-)
